Maintaining a low leakage level in the future

The main objective of a water loss project should not be just to lower leakage, but rather to ensure that a low level is maintained in the future. This is why a permanent control system is essential. However, it is of little value if the staff is not capable to monitor and manage the system. In addition to providing a service to manage the entire activity, iWED Ltd. offers expert training tailored specifically to the client’s needs. The course covers all aspects of reducing and managing losses and has been developed with the collaboration of an University in Wales.

  • Introduction – This includes essential hydraulic theory such as head, headloss and the impact of pressure on leakage.
  • Building a Hydraulic Model – Construction of the model structure from a mapping system such as a GIS and the various methods of allocating consumption. Practical application in a real situation.
  • Field Monitoring – This involves the basic principles, location of the monitoring points, the instruments and logging, and checking and assessing the field data.
  • Calibrating a Hydraulic Model – The principles of identifying anomalies and assessing the possible cause. Practical application in a real situation.
  • Application of a Hydraulic Model – Designing a permanent leakage and pressure control system. Defining the rehabilitation requirements, Demand prediction, Assess impact of investment on the tariff, and practical application in a real situation
  • Management of losses – Introduction to the traditional technical parameters and why they are unsatisfactory. The concepts of the economic approach which balances costs and benefits against the resource availability, monitoring DMAs and decide when to intervene.
  • Pressure Management – Importance of pressure management on leakage and burst frequency, operation of a PRV, Dynamic control of PRVs, typical end results, practical application in a real situation.
  • Presentation Skills and Character Building – Develop the ability and conviction to introduce change in an organization which may be unaware of efficiency.
  • Site Visit – A visit to a world class Utility to see how losses and leaks are managed.Training may also be undertaken at the beautiful Villa Colombella, in Perugia, Italy home of UNESCO’s World Water Assessment Programme or on-site. Contact [email protected] for more details.
